Visit daily... it's worth it

I have a small list of websites that I visit daily (other than email).
1. The BBC
2. Woot
3. MPR
4. The breast cancer site
and my favorite
5. Cake Wrecks Blog

Check it out when you have a minute, and you're going to want to book mark it. It's a great break from the mundane!

Attic progress

Chris and I have been working remodeling the attic for quite awhile now. We got as far as we could this winter and then hit a dead end. We had stripped out the old paneling, ripped out the old drywall (whoever installed did a horrendous job), discovered loads of bat guano, framed in two closets and upgraded the insulation.
From earlier this winter before we started putting up the drywall.
Okay, when I say "we" I mean Chris. =) But WE hit a dead end earlier this spring after we had got most of the sheet rock up. We hired a contractor to finish this up before Chris leaves for Italy next month. Here's an updated shot from roughly the same spot.
And finally, a few more shots from different spots upstairs. It's almost time to pick paint and carpet!

See mom- we'll now have a wall over the stairs (and soon a railing!)

Excitement at work

I was contemplating leaving work early today to work from home. I have a big deadline due, and with summer staff around- sometimes it’s hard to focus. I’m glad I didn’t leave early, because I would have missed this!

At noon one of our Park Attendants noticed smoke coming from a nearby trail intersection. After confirming that we didn’t have a prescribed burn schedule we got on the horn to 911. Luckily a squad was already hanging out in our parking lot (keeping an eye on the crazy beach folks). The police officer beat the living snot out of it (picture 1) just as the fire department arrived. The second picture is him claiming “victory” over the fire.

Thanks to the quick work of our local public servants only small patch of our prairie suffered! Well, public servants and mother nature. The stifling humidity and recent rain also slowed the progress of the fire. No thanks, however, to the loser who ignored our Tobacco Free policy.

A skink

We’ve caught glimpses of this guy’s tail for the last few years, but have never been able to catch one for closer inspection! Yesterday, this guy posed for Adam.

Check out more of Adam’s photography here.

Day trip

On Monday Chris, McClane and I headed to Frontenac State Park. It's about an hour south of here- lots of bluffs, ferns and cool things to see!

Maine trip day 6

The last full day in Maine before we headed home. We drove up the coast with our destination being Bar Harbor. (A very pretty little town!) I had lobster there for the very first time- delicious!

Maine trip day 4

Oh so late...
